Develop a swing trigger
It’s much easier to get the swing off to a smooth, rhythmic start if you develop a specific motion or “swing trigger,” rather than starting from a dead standstill. There is no one correct swing trigger, but many that are helpful. You may want to use a slight forward press, in which you push your hands an inch or two toward the target before letting them recoil into the takeaway. You might try a forward press of the right knee toward the target before starting back. Or, you may hold the club very lightly, then firm up your grip pressure just slightly as a cue to draw the club back. Practice one of these swing triggers and see which one helps you get the smoothest start.
