Back to the target
In the most effective swings, the large muscles control the motion. A simple key to help utilize your body rather than your hands to execute the backswing is this: Turn your back to the target. You want to coil your upper body as fully as you can so that at the top, your shoulder blades point at the target. It’s okay if you can’t turn this far, as long as you turn as fully as you can while maintaining balance. An added benefit of this swing tip is that it’s almost impossible to make a fast backswing while thinking of turning your back to the target.
