Adjustments for fairway bunker shots
Most amateurs have trouble making good contact from fairway bunkers. Here are a couple of setup tips that will help: First, since you must dig your feet into the sand for a secure stance, you’re a little lower than normal in relation to the ball. So you’ll automatically tend to hit the shot “fat.” Adjust by gripping down the handle three-quarters of an inch. Also, because your feet are lower than the ball, your swing will be flatter than normal, which can cause a pull or hook. Close your stance so that your aim is a little right of the target. Finally, position the ball about one ball-width back in your stance from its normal position to help assure that you contact the ball first.
